Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ page to learn more about our conversion services.

What film formats do you transfer?

Our film transfer services encompass various formats, including 8mm, Super 8, Super 8 sound, 16mm silent, and 16mm with optimal soundtracks. We don’t transfer 16mm film with magnetic soundtracks.

Do I get my film back?

Everything you send to us will come back to you in the condition it was received.

Is the transfer high definition?

Yes, we transfer 8mm film using high-definition equipment at 1080P, which is more than adequate to capture all the detail in 8mm and Super 8 film. Some may ask why not use 2K or 4K resolution? The answer is that 8mm and Super 8 film are low resolution, low frame rate formats that will not look any better or more detailed by using higher resolution settings. And the resulting file sizes would be much larger and require us to charge extra for our USB’s, which are included in our transfer prices.

The following footage is from actual film transfers done for real customers. Your film may look better or worse depending on several factors. Clip #1 is Regular 8mm Film and Clip #2 is Super 8 Film. (Note that all video hosting platforms, even high quality ones like Vimeo, lose a bit of resolution versus the raw uploaded files).

What if I have a sound movie film?

We will convert your 8mm film’s sound at no extra cost.

Do you archive my film transfer?

Your movie film transfer footage is archived for 2 months for your protection and convenience. This allows you to order additional copies or recover your data if your shipment is delayed or lost.

What if my film is broken?

If your film is damaged, we will repair it for no additional cost.

What if my reels are not full?

We often see reels that aren’t completely full. We’ll only charge you for the amount of film that is on your 5, 5, or 7-inch reel.

How do I order?

  • Fill out and print our form with our shipping address.
  • Box up your 8mm or Super 8 film reels along with your printed order form. Envelopes or padded mailers are not recommended for shipping.
  • When we receive your box, we’ll email your invoice.
  • Once your order is complete, we’ll ship it back to you within two weeks.

For local customers, drop off your box at our location in Tyler during our normal business hours, and we’ll take care of the rest.

How do I know if my 8mm movie film is still good?

8mm and Super 8 film is usually transferable if it’s not stuck together. Even if the leader is broken, we’re still able to transfer it. For scenes that are out of focus, overexposed, or underexposed—transfering can slightly correct them, but we cannot guarantee perfection.

What if my film appears curled and damaged?

Depending on how badly your film is curled, we may not be able to transfer it.
